Previous research has already shown that cannabidiol (CBD) may be protective against acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Now, new research shows that THC, the psychoactive form of cannabis, not only may also protect against ARDS, but even may help prevent it from being fatal.
THC has potent components that fight inflammation and pain. According to Forbes, researchers are investigating whether those same components and properties can also fight the cytokine storms caused by COVID-19 — and so far, in mice, it’s worked 100%. For reference, in the same study, 100% of the mice that didn’t get THC died.
“The researchers explain that ‘Collectively, this study suggests that the activation of cannabinoid receptors may serve as a therapeutic modality to treat ARDS associated with Covid-19,’” Forbes said.
