United Airlines is offering on-the-spot coronavirus testing beginning with its San Francisco to Hawaii flight October 15, 2020.
The pilot program will consist of rapid tests supplied by Abbott Laboratories, with results in 15 minutes. As another option, customers can self-administer their own test at home, and then submit it to the airline within 72 hours before the flight.
As a reward for going through all this, the state of Hawaii has agreed not to make anyone who tests negative within 72 hours of their arrival will not be subject to the state’s 14-day quarantine rule.
In other news, airlines have been calling for federal policies on testing and mask wearing.
