A study in JAMA Cardiology shows that being infected with COVID-19 could have serious implications for your heart, specifically with inflammation in the heart muscle. Out of 100 people in the study who had an MRI test, 60 of them showed at least some signs of myocarditis, which can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.
While study authors indicated more research is needed on this topic, it’s still crucial for people to be aware of the possible ramifications if they get COVID, especially athletes, who may be eager to get back to their teams as soon as they’re feeling better.
Experts speaking with The New York Times said that if you do experience any symptoms of heart failure, it’s important to stop exercising and see a physician immediately.
