Researchers Are Genetically Modifying Anthrax and Combining It With SARS-CoV-2

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) documents reveal that a BSL-3 lab is conducting research at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center that combines SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, with deadly anthrax.

Genetically engineered, the hybrid virus “can [be] used as a host strain to make SARS-CoV-2 recombinant S protein vaccine,” The Last American Vagabond reports. The use of anthrax as a component of various research projects is not new — some have even suggested using “disarmed” anthrax as an adjuvant in vaccines. However, the idea that it’s now being used in combination with SARS-CoV-2 has some biotech critics questioning the motives and safety of the project.

The FOIA documents were obtained by Edward Hammond, former director of the Sunshine Project, which opposes chemical and biological weapons.
