A new study in Social Science & Medicine reports that 28%, or 1 in 3 persons interviewed believes that the coronavirus was created in a Chinese lab as a bioweapon. The study also found that those most likely to believe the virus is lab-created were also more likely to balk about wearing a mask.
Both The New York Times and Social Science & Medicine labeled the opinions as beliefs in conspiracy theories, but demographics showed that 24%, or 1 in 4, of the ones who believe the virus was purposely created in a lab are more likely to have some college or beyond, and 21.4%, or better than 1 in 5, had incomes of $85,000 to more than $200,000 a year.
