A tweet from the office of California Gov. Gavin Newsom is reminding California residents to wear their masks, even while eating. “Going out to eat? Don’t forget to keep your mask on in between bites,” the message says.
Accompanying the tweet is a graphic showing people the proper procedure: Wear the mask while looking at the menu; take it down to take a bite; put it back on afterward.
While the governor’s website isn’t clear when this particular rule took effect, some cities in California have been making their own, similar rules since midsummer. San Francisco issued its own version of the rule July 1, 2020, which also requires that diners put their masks on “any time servers, bussers or other personnel” approach their tables.
