Leaked documents from the U.K. National Health Service reveal that the NHS is planning to administer tens of thousands of COVID-19 vaccines every day, beginning as early as November 2020.
“The Health Secretary told the virtual Tory conference that 'the plans are in train' to combine the NHS and the armed forces to make 'the rollout happen,'” according to the Daily Mail. Since the vaccine needs to doses, the plan is to give 600,000 shots a day.
Five mass vaccination centers will be set up across the country, where nurses and paramedics will deliver the shots, with the “most vulnerable” being lined up first. A fleet of mobile units manned by GPs and pharmacists will also go on the road to reach “vulnerable communities and those in care homes,” the Daily Mail said.
Those most vulnerable were listed as anyone over age 80, along with care home residents and staff. NHS staff will be next. “But millions living with heart disease or other ailments that raise their risk of dying of Covid-19 won't be vaccinated until everyone over the age of 65 is inoculated,” according to the guidelines. Also, no one under age 18 will get a shot.
