Four newborns in need of life-saving heart surgeries have died because lockdown policies in Australia did not allow them to be transported across state lines due to travel restrictions.
Government officials squabbled over who was actually to blame for the deaths — disagreeing on whether it was a policy of the babies not being able to leave one state, or if it was a policy not allowing them to enter the other.
The Daily Mail said that the hospital involved has now been labeled a “national disgrace” due to the deaths. Hospital representatives responded that there is “not enough staff, not enough resourcing, not enough allied health to run many of the services of pediatric medicine in this state.
