The arbitrary censorship that Big Tech giants like Facebook, Google and Twitter exert over their platforms is a topic that’s come to a head during the current U.S. election season, but the ongoing control they have over their users won’t end when the election’s over unless regulators step up.
While most social media operate on a concept that usership is free, actually the innards of each are operated by a series of mathematical parameters and algorithms that can make or break — or ban — whatever a user posts. In the end, you get to post and see only what they decide you will post and see.
Despite what you might think, these giants are not offering a free speech platform. Rather, they essentially are controlling “every aspect of society and life,” National Interest says. “It is akin to China’s ‘free speech elite … [and] this must stop. Claiming Big Tech censorship and viewpoint discrimination are only intended to stop untruthful discourse is ridiculous and ends with these tragic outcomes.”
