EcoHealth Deceives Medical Journal and the Public

A nonprofit group that’s received millions of dollars of taxpayer funding to genetically manipulate coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology is at the center of a letter that appears to willfully deceive the public about the true origins of SARS-CoV-2.

Emails obtained by U.S. Right to Know show that EcoHealth Alliance, which has been working with the Wuhan lab to create genetically modified coronaviruses, created a letter published in a prestigious journal, The Lancet, in February 2020. The letter, signed by 27 authors — some of whom did not disclose their association with EcoHealth as conflicts of interest — called for “rapid, open and transparent sharing of data” on COVID-19, and labeled any ideas that the virus came from a lab as conspiracy theory.

However, U.S. Right to Know found that EcoHealth Alliance president Peter Daszak was the one who actually drafted the statement, and that it was purposely written in such a way to make it look like it was “simply a letter from leading scientists,” rather than organized by a group with a deep financial and business stake in the issue.
