CDC Warns That Thanksgiving Gatherings Could Make You a Superspreader

Small household gatherings pose a dangerous risk of spreading COVID-19, and the CDC says it wants citizens to be extra vigilant during the coming holiday season by being mindful of social distancing and mask wearing.

On a conference call with the nation’s governors, CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield said the agency had noticed “a higher degree of vigilance and mitigation steps in many jurisdictions,” but “the increasing threat right now is actually acquisition of infection through small household gatherings.”

Acknowledging that “people are just yearning to be together,” Dr. Deborah Birx, White House coronavirus task force coordinator, asked people not to let their guard down during Thanksgiving. And, if you do get together anyway, besides wearing the masks and social distancing, make sure your homes are well-ventilated.
