A new study shows that the SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, was in the U.S. weeks earlier than scientists previously thought. Published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, the study showed evidence of coronavirus antibodies in 106 of 7,389 blood samples collected between December 13 and 16, 2019.
“The presence of antibodies in a person's blood means they were exposed to a virus, in this case the coronavirus, and that their body's immune system triggered a defensive response,” NPR said.
