The lockdowns and quarantines during the COVID-19 pandemic have been so devastating to Americans’ finances that many people, unable to work because of the rules, are living in poverty.
One-fifth of people making $100,000 a year were already living paycheck to paycheck in February 2020, ZeroHedge reports. But now, a new survey shows that 82% of Americans are so broke that they wouldn’t have $500 to draw upon, were they to have an emergency.
Besides the shutdowns keeping businesses closed and businesses simply quitting, school closures are preventing many parents from going back to work, too.
