Plans for communitywide testing of university students for COVID-19 fell flat when early results showed the tests had only a 3% sensitivity coupled with a 58% false positive rate.
Even worse, when Birmingham University tested 7,500 students, they found only two positives out of 7,189 students. On retest, they found six false negatives. “The findings present a fresh challenge to the government’s decision to purchase 20 million” of the tests, researchers said.
