In a reversal of a long-standing position on abortion, the Vatican announced that using cell lines from aborted fetuses is acceptable with COVID vaccines, due to “grave reasons” that justified their use.
The fact that there is no alternative vaccine choice makes the current ones acceptable to Catholic doctrine, the announcement added. Pope Francis himself weighed in, saying that humanity cannot allow “the virus of radical individualism to get the better of us and make us indifferent to the suffering of other brothers and sisters.”
Paradoxically, the Pontifical Academy for Life at the same called for a continued “commitment to ensuring that every vaccine has no connection in its preparation to any material originating from an abortion.”
The Vatican COVID-19 commission and the Pontifical Academy for Life also joined together to educate people on the “moral responsibility” to get vaccinated, saying that refusing to get the vaccine constituted a risk to others, American Magazine reported.
