COVID-19 vaccine experts are telling parents not to hug their children, even after they’ve been vaccinated. One warning comes from Janet Lord, director of Britain’s Birmingham University Institute of Inflammation and Ageing.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4, Lord said that relaxing social distancing rules such as hugging “reduces the benefits of vaccination.” Even if vaccination “passports” were implemented, which would let people know you’ve had the vaccine, Lord said that hugging could send a wrong psychological message to others.
“People might think (it is a) passport to freedom and even those who haven’t been vaccinated will see those changing their behaviors and think, ‘Well why should I bother if no one else is either?’ That’s the real worry we’ve got at the moment,” Lord said.
