If all goes as planned, PepsiCo and Beyond Meat will soon be partners in bringing plant-based snack substitutes to market. The cola giant will lend its production and marketing experience to help market the fake meat company’s products.
The marriage will help Pepsi “work toward its sustainability goals” to reduce greenhouse emissions, CNBC said. But will the general public warm to vegan Doritos? Although JPMorgan analyst Ken Goldman speculated that there isn’t a huge demand for them right now, Pepsi’s global chief commercial officer is more optimistic.
“Plant-based proteins represent an exciting growth opportunity for us, a new frontier in our efforts to build a more sustainable food system and be a positive force for people and the planet, while meeting consumer demand for an expanded portfolio of more nutritious products,” Ram Krishnan said.
