Speaking with BBC Breakfast, British secretary of state for transport Grant Shapps said he thinks that international travel may depend on everyone in the U.K., and potentially the world, getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
His announcement came after the British government extended hotel quarantines for travelers from certain “red list” countries. Penalties for not disclosing that you’ve been to places such as Portugal could result in heavy fines and even 10-year prison sentences.
He said the only way to avert this would be for everyone to get vaccinated — and that includes waiting for other countries to catch up with their vaccination programs.
