Break UK’s COVID Travel Restrictions, Get 10 Years in Jail

Summary by Cindy Olmstead

New U.K. health commission rules being implemented as laws may send travelers to the U.K. to prison for 10 years if they fail to follow them to the letter.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced the new criteria, which call for a 10-day quarantine in a government-selected hotel — at the visitor’s expense — and three PCR tests before anyone can travel within the country. If any of the PCR tests are positive for the virus, visitors must extend their quarantine.

ZeroHedge said the cost of the hotels alone could add up to as much as £2,000 ($2,765); the PCR tests are £100 ($138) each.

Besides a possible prison sentence, violators could also be fined £1,000 to £10,000 based on the violation and how many times they committed each violation. ZeroHedge noted that conservative MPs are balking at the health commission’s restrictions, saying that Hancock was putting the country in a situation where lockdowns would be “forever.”
