Nursing home deaths in the U.K. are the highest they’ve been since mid-May 2020, and British health care officials say they’re racing to get COVID-19 vaccines to residents as fast as they can.
“The rising numbers came after the vaccines minister, Nadhim Zahawi, described the inoculation programme as ‘a race against deaths’ and GPs scrambled to deliver vaccines to the half of care home residents yet to receive jabs,” the Guardian reported.
In England, a third of all pandemic deaths have been nursing home residents. The deaths are occurring regardless of having strict protective measures in place, the Guardian said.
