You’ve probably heard someone say, “I may be overweight, but I’m healthy.” Now, researchers with the European Society of Cardiology have weighed in on that perception, saying that being obese and healthy is a myth.
Study data suggest that while exercise does help lower the risk of developing hypertension and diabetes, being overweight still significantly raises the risk of heart attack and stroke. Researchers found that overweight people who exercise still suffer from poorer heart health.
Futhermore, those who are active and obese are still around twice as likely to have high cholesterol compared to inactive normal weight people; are four times more likely to have diabetes; and five times more likely to have high blood pressure.
Researchers concluded that while exercise helps in cases of obesity, weight loss is better.
