The joint committee on vaccination in England has decided to prioritize the 150,000 people with severe disabilities to get the U.K.’s version of the COVID vaccine.
While those with mild disabilities won’t be on the priority list, the charity Mencap suggested that everyone with a learning disability check to see if they’re on the disability register and, if not, to register, as they believe that as many as a third of eligible persons are not registered.
Adults with Down Syndrome have already been offered their shots, the BBC reported. Meanwhile, Scotland announced it would prioritize all persons with learning disabilities beginning March 1, 2021. Health authorities reported that a study showed that people with a learning disability were more likely to die from COVID-19.
