In a report that somehow seemed to be missed when it first came out in late May 2021, a researcher writing in The BMJ reported that Pfizer’s COVID vaccine was likely responsible for some of the deaths in elderly patients after they got the vaccine.
The study group looked at the first 100 deaths in nursing homes where about 30,000 people had received the vaccine. They found that at least 10 of the deaths — 10% — could likely have been caused by the vaccine even though mortality rates in nursing homes are generally higher than for the public as a whole.
Specifically, the study concluded that “a causal link between the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine and death was considered ‘likely’ in 10 of the 100 cases, ‘possible’ in 26 cases, and ‘unlikely’ in 59 cases. The remaining five were deemed ‘unclassifiable.’” With “likely” and “possible” deaths combined, that means that more than one-third of the patients’ deaths could either likely or possibly be attributed to the vaccine.
