The Rise and Fall of Virus Hunter Peter Daszak

From serving on a commission investigating the origin of SARS-CoV-2, to being investigated himself for having serious conflicts of interest regarding the virus’ origins, EcoHealth Alliance president Peter Daszak has a seen a rise and fall in his career that highlights what can happen when you try to hide truths.

In a scathing review, The Sunday Times calls Daszak a “scientist … engulfed in controversy after it was revealed his charity had funded the [Wuhan Lab].” With the truth out, he’s transformed from a man with a sense of humor to someone cowering under “the explosive question of whether the virus escaped accidentally from Shi’s Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), which Daszak — like China — has consistently denied.”

How can he objectively investigate something he has such conflicted interests in? the Times asks — and rightfully so: “The WIV appears to have received almost $600,000 of a $3.7 million grant awarded to Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance in 2014 by the US Department for Health and Human Services for the purposes of ‘understanding the risk of bat coronavirus emergence,’” the Times points out.
