Majority of Americans Now Believe Coronavirus Leaked From a Lab

A poll by Politico and Harvard University found that 52% of Americans now believe that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, leaked from a lab.

This is up from a Pew Research Center study that in March 2020 found only 29% of Americans blamed a lab leak.

In comparison, today just 28% think it evolved naturally from an infected animal to humans. The issue is bipartisan, Yahoo! News says, with 52% of Democrats and 59% of Republicans blaming it on a lab leak.

Bob Blendon, professor of health policy at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the designer of the survey, said the new survey was unusual in that polls usually show a “big split” between political parties, whereas this one is fairly even.
