Forbes: The Next Step to ‘Normal’ Is Facial Recognition

As the world moves into becoming the epitome of the book, “1984,” Forbes says the next step should be to implement facial recognition in cities.

It will help speed the development of “smart” cities, Forbes says, laying the groundwork for “digital solutions to deliver real-time information to government and management services so that they can operate more efficiently.”

Doing this will make it safer to live in these cities, Forbes Business Council member Rob Watts writes in the article. Watts also is CEO of Corsight, which bills itself as “the world’s leading facial recognition” technology developer.

“Smart cities are a valuable investment in the future,” he says, and “when deployed correctly, facial recognition technology can help accelerate this process. Cameras can capture vast amounts of data, which can be quickly analyzed to detect potential risks to citizens’ daily lives.”

The benefits of gathering citizens’ data through facial recognition are safer shopping and ride-sharing experiences and ease in helping vulnerable persons in situations where they are lost, kidnapped or ill. All this information would be uploaded into “secure databases,” Watts adds, and ultimately will “support a flourishing economy.”
