Thousands in France Take to the Streets to Protest Coronavirus Rules

The United States isn’t the only place where citizens are getting antsy about pandemic lockdowns and restrictions. In France on Bastille Day (July 14, 2021) 19,000 people took to the streets to protest President Emmanuel Macron’s latest coronavirus restrictions for unvaccinated persons.

Macron introduced new COVID-19 rules, including mandated vaccines for health workers and vaccine passes for most public places. Unvaccinated people would require proof of a negative test result to enter restaurants.

Thousands of protesters rejected the idea of vaccine passports but, according to an opinion poll published after Macron’s announcement, a large majority of French people approved of the new rules and a record number of French people booked appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations.
