A federal judge has extended his restraining order blocking the state of New York from forcing health care workers to get the COVID-19 vaccine to October 12, 2021.
Oral arguments on the issue had been scheduled for September 20. Judge David Hurd said he would rule on the fight “on or before October 12,” but it remained unclear whether certain employees who had been told to get vaccinated by September 27 still had to meet that deadline.
The issue came before him when anonymous plaintiffs sued the state. According to News10 Albany, “The state says this order does not suspend the vaccine mandate, but it temporarily stops the Department of Health from enforcing the mandate where individuals have claims for religious exemption. The state must submit its response to the lawsuit by Wednesday [September 22] at 5 p.m.
