In a gesture that she said was to prevent the “trend” of COVID increasing around the holidays, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has introduced a bill to require all passengers on domestic U.S. flights to either be vaccinated, test negative or be fully recovered from a COVID infection.
According to NBC Bay Area News, passengers at the San Francisco International Airport who were told about the legislation said they support Feinstein’s efforts. It still has to work its way through the legislative process, but Feinstein said she’s hoping to get it passed before Thanksgiving.
On her Senate website, Feinstein says the bill also instructs the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to make recommendations for COVID-19 vaccine use in health care settings and among health care personnel in other settings, and for the HHS secretary to develop national vaccination standards for domestic air travel.
Her website also notes a Kaiser Family Foundation poll that found 3 in 10 people would be motivated to get the vaccine if airlines required it.
