Pesticides Found in Children’s Cerebro-Spinal Fluid, Plasma, Urine

A ground-breaking study of children’s urine, blood plasma and cerebro-spinal fluid found them contaminated with neonicotinoids, a common pesticide that binds to both insect and mammal nicotinic acetycholine receptors (nAChRs).

It’s the same pesticides that some scientists suspect are killing bees essential for pollination, and which have been banned in some countries.

Although it was a small sampling — 14 children in all — researchers said, “Our data suggest that contamination by multiple NN is not only an environmental hazard for non-target insects such as bees but also potentially for children.”
