Moderna to Seek Emergency Use COVID Shot for Children Under 6

Moderna has announced that it plans to seek an emergency use authorization (EUA) for its COVID-19 shot for children under age 6.

This, despite the nosedive in COVID numbers and in spite of evidence that, according to Moderna’s senior vice president Dr. Jacqueline Miller, “the vaccine proved only about 44% effective in preventing symptomatic illness among children 6 months to 2 years old, and 37% effective in children 2 through 5 years old.”

Even though the protection levels are so low, Miller called it a “successful” trial and justified the EUA request by saying the numbers were “higher than zero” and she believes that parents “would want there to be some protection onboard.”
