You’ll Never Guess Where Fauci Got His Coronavirus Lab Bats

From camels to bats (and most likely more), the animals used to study deadly viruses at some of the BSL-4 labs used by Dr. Anthony Fauci don’t always come from a certified facility housing animals just for the purposes of research.

Rather, they may be coming from a local zoo — the very environment you’d expect to be harboring and protecting animals, not farming them out for research and experimentation. In the case of coronavirus, some of Fauci’s lab bats came from the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo in Maryland.

Specifically, a research article states that “12 male adult Egyptian fruit bats were obtained from the Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo” and used to extract RNA from their tissues to see whether they were susceptible to “SARS-like WIV1-CoV, originally detected in Chinese rufous horseshoe bats.”
