A scientific review of the role of antioxidants in treating COVID-19 has found that “vitamins C and D and minerals such as selenium and zinc are potential avenues for ameliorating many of the severe manifestations of COVID-19.”
And while more studies need to be done, researchers also believe that vitamins A and E and α-lipoic acid may also have potential therapeutic benefits. Researchers wrote:
“In conclusion, due to the important role of oxidative stress in the pathogenicity of SARS-CoV-2, antioxidants seem to be beneficial for patients with COVID-19. Particularly, the findings obtained from this systematic review suggest that vitamins C and D, selenium, and zinc can improve some COVID-19 clinical outcomes.”
