Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin was resuscitated twice, both on the field and in the hospital, before he could be stabilized, intubated, and sedated, his uncle said.
Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after what looked like a routine play with a hit to his chest in a game against the Bengals. After the hit he started to get up but collapsed. Emergency workers immediately began CPR until the ambulance came.
He’s not the first athlete to be stricken in mid-play. Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker had a similar incident in 2017. It happened to hockey legend Chris Pronger, too, in 1998.
