Apples are full of healthy plant compounds that may help lower cholesterol, support heart health, and aid in weight loss. While the popular saying promotes eating one apple a day, some studies suggest that two or three apples daily may provide more noticeable benefits.
In one study, people who ate apples every day didn’t see fewer doctor visits — but they did use fewer prescription medications. This has led some experts to joke that the phrase should be: “An apple a day keeps the pharmacist away.”
To get the most nutrition, eat apples with the skin on, where most of the fiber and antioxidants are found. And while apples are a healthy choice, they work best when included in a plant-rich, balanced diet.
