Is Your Sleep Schedule Hurting Your Bladder?

A new study suggests that how long you sleep could affect your bladder health. Researchers found that both too little and too much sleep may increase the risk of an overactive bladder (OAB). The study, published in Frontiers in Medicine, looked at data from more than 27,000 U.S. adults and found a U-shaped link between sleep duration and bladder symptoms.

People who slept less than six hours a night had a slightly lower risk, while those who slept nine hours or more faced a much higher risk of bladder problems. The study also found that people with chronic sleep disorders were more likely to experience urgency and frequent nighttime urination. About six hours of sleep appeared to be the point where risk patterns started to change.

Experts say improving sleep habits may help manage bladder symptoms. Keeping a regular sleep schedule, reducing stress, and using simple strategies like adjusting hydration before bed can support bladder control and improve quality of life.
