President Donald Trump has announced a new plan to make in vitro fertilization (IVF) more affordable for Americans. The initiative introduces deep discounts on fertility drugs and allows employers to offer fertility benefits outside of traditional health insurance plans.
The plan, set to roll out in early 2026, includes a deal with drugmaker EMD Serono and two major specialty pharmacies, CVS Specialty and Express Scripts’ Freedom Fertility. Under the agreement, EMD Serono’s fertility drug Gonal-f will be available through the TrumpRx platform at discounts of up to 84%. Since medications make up roughly 40% of IVF costs, the administration says the move could greatly ease the financial strain for families paying out of pocket.
Fertility advocates called the move an encouraging first step but said more action is needed to ensure true access. The discounts will vary based on income, with the deepest savings for those earning under 550% of the federal poverty level. The White House also plans to fast-track FDA review of a new fertility drug from EMD Serono, signaling that more changes could be on the way to expand IVF access nationwide.
