Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson and its spinoff Kenvue, accusing them of misleading pregnant women about the safety of Tylenol. The suit claims the companies kept promoting Tylenol as safe during pregnancy, even as studies suggested that acetaminophen — the drug’s main ingredient — could raise the risk of autism, ADHD, and developmental problems in children. Paxton said the case aims to hold drugmakers accountable for putting profits over public health.
For years, research has warned that using acetaminophen during pregnancy may affect a baby’s brain development. Experts say the drug may cause oxidative stress and disrupt hormones, especially with frequent or long-term use. Even short-term use, they caution, may not be risk-free.
