A small new study suggests that drinking orange juice every day may affect how the body handles inflammation, metabolism and blood vessel health. Researchers asked healthy adults to drink two cups of 100% orange juice daily and found changes in the activity of more than a thousand genes. The results hint that citrus compounds, especially flavonoids, may gently shift the body toward healthier inflammatory and metabolic patterns.
One interesting finding was that people responded differently based on body weight. Participants at a normal weight showed gene changes linked more to inflammation, while those carrying extra weight showed changes tied to fat metabolism and energy use. This suggests that the same food may affect people differently depending on their biology and metabolic state.
Because the study was small and didn’t compare orange juice to another drink, it can’t prove specific health benefits. Larger studies are needed to know whether these gene changes lead to better heart or metabolic health. Still, the research supports the idea that plant-rich foods with natural flavonoids may influence the body more deeply than once thought, especially when eaten or consumed regularly.
