A study done by the consumer component of drug company Wyeth, found that daily use of a multivitamin by older adults is a relatively inexpensive yet potentially powerful way to improve one's health. They estimated the five-year potential savings (or cost offsets) resulting from improved immune functioning and a reduction in the relative risk of coronary artery disease through providing older adults with a daily multivitamin is approximately $1.6 billion.
Can you imagine what the cost savings would be if we could get people to eat properly? Although I don?t have any hard data, my guess is that the single most important supplement that people could be on is fish oil. Although vitamins and minerals can certainly be useful, it really is major risk to know which ones you really need if you don?t understand your nutritional type as they could actually make you worse. Fish oil is really a food and necessary for all nutritional types. If you haven?t switched over to cod liver oil yet, now is the time to do so as the extra vitamin D will help compensate for our decreased exposure to sunlight as winter approaches.
My favorite source of omega-3 fats is krill oil.
