Who Should Be Deciding Risk―Engineers or Experts in Biology?

After a long spell of sitting on their hands, officials at the FCC have decided to review their safety guidelines for RF radiation emitted from cell phones and other electromagnetic fields. This would be the first time since 1996 they’ve taken a look at scientific evidence on the risks of RF radiation. The only thing is officials apparently have already decided the old guidelines are perfectly fine, before they even take the first look at all the new electronic devices that have come into use in the past 16 years. As reported by Bloomberg News and Electro Magnetic Health, the FCC’s spokesperson, Tammy Sun, slipped the everything’s-fine information out in an email to Bloomberg, in which she said:

“Our action today is a routine review of our standards. We are confident that, as set, the emissions guidelines for devices pose no risks to consumers.”

OK, then, if the guidelines are just fine as-is, why are they bothering to look at them at all? And more importantly, does this mean they intend to just keep on using the “safety” information they get from engineers who invent these devices, or are they going to start considering the flood of evidence flowing in from experts in biology, who are hoisting red flags trying to warn people about the RFdangers?
