Detroit to Shut Off Drinking Water in Schools After Lead Found

Detroit public school officials have shut down water supplies to all 16 of its schools after discovering elevated levels of lead and copper in the water of more than a dozen buildings, where “antiquated plumbing systems” pump water to the faucets, Reuters reports.

Water woes are nothing new in Michigan, as you need to look no further than Flint, where high-level executives, including the state’s medical officer, have been charged with everything from manslaughter to obstruction of justice to outright lying about the city’s contaminated water that came as a result of trying to save money by switching water sources.

Flint’s story is a human rights travesty. People suffered countless health problems, including rashes, hair loss and vision problems, yet state managers insisted the water was safe. This stance was maintained even in the face of third-party independent water testing. The whole point, though, is that whether it’s Flint or Detroit or any number of cities around the world, there are serious questions about what is flowing through your tap to your glass.

This means filtering your household water is no longer optional. Besides the possible leaching of copper or lead from old pipes — which should be replaced by you or your landlord, depending on whether you own or rent your home — your drinking water may be contaminated with gender-bending pharmaceutical drugs, agricultural runoff, industrial waste and heavy metals released by deteriorating infrastructure.

There is also the issue of the toxic chemicals used during water treatment, not to mention that many water utility companies add the neurotoxin, fluoride, to your water in a misguided attempt to save your teeth from dental caries.

The obvious solution is to filter all the water that comes into the house, and then filtering it again at the kitchen sink and shower. An even more healthful solution is to consume living water. Energized water can recharge your mitochondria, and deep springs are one excellent source. You can also promote structured water through vortexing or cooling it to 39 degrees Fahrenheit. Reverting tap water back into a vitality boosting element can provide enormous health benefits.
