A survey of 2,000 British adults shed some light on just how tired people really are, and how it’s affecting their day-to-day activities and responsibilities. Many of those surveyed said they frequently avoid daily tasks such as socializing, washing their hair, cooking dinner and even having sex because they are simply exhausted.
Those polled admitted that working out and cleaning the house were the top two tasks they avoided most often. Half of those surveyed also said they go out to eat or get dinner delivered, because they’re too tired to cook. About one-fourth of the female participants said they’ve gone to bed with makeup still on, because they were too exhausted to wash it off. Around 30% of those surveyed said they’ve cancelled a date or social plans due to exhaustion, and many admitted to avoiding tasks such as grocery shopping, reading and driving because the tasks sounded too challenging.
So what’s the most common go-to for adults when they’re feeling drained? Unfortunately, the poll found that for the majority of participants, it’s reaching for a sugary snack. Drinking coffee and taking a nap came in close for the top spot. Around 30% said they go for a walk, take a shower or listen to loud music to help wake them up.
What else did the survey find? Well, most adults said they were the most tired on Monday’s, and most alert on Saturday’s (no surprise there). Two in five adults said being tired leads them to eat junk food, while 31% said it causes them to argue with their partner and 25% admitted to crying due to their exhaustion. Around 25% said their lack of sleep results in anxiety, and one-fifth of those surveyed said they’ve seen a doctor due to constant exhaustion.
