Fewer people than originally estimated have died from COVID-19, making the fatality rate about the same as death rates for influenza, according to a Stanford University Medical School study.
Mortality estimations dropped when health officials began recognizing that “a significant proportion” of people have been sick with COVID-19, but didn’t have symptoms, and therefore didn’t need medical treatment. In fact, a study in Iceland shows that as many as 50 percent of people don’t have any symptoms at all.
