One of the loudest protesters against rolling back drug
prices was Dr. Elizabeth Nabel, president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, who
wrote an op-ed for The Detroit News in February 2020, claiming rolling back
prices would cripple drug company innovation.
The only problem was that Nabel failed to disclose that, at
the time, she was sitting on the board of Moderna, a drug company ramping up
production of remdesivir, a COVID-19 drug that the company recently said will
cost $3,120 a week for a five-day course, per patient.
July 30, 2020, Moderna announced that Nabel had resigned
from the board. Her husband, Dr. Gary Nabel, continues his position as chief
scientific officer for Sanofi.
