Many studies have shown that unemployment can increase your
risk of death from all causes, but this study dug deeper — and found that being
unemployed can increase your risk of death by 63%, with the association greater
for men.
Age and the point at which you are in your working career
are also factors, with those in the early stages of their life and career being
more at risk than those in later stages. Specifically, there is a 77% increased
risk for people between ages 40 and 50, and a 73% increased risk for those
under the age of 40 who are early in their careers.
This meta-analysis looked at 42 different studies
encompassing 20 million people.
