Most of the deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Palm Beach County, Florida, are not due to coronavirus alone, according to an investigation by CBS 12. Specifically, only 86 of 658 cases were actually due to COVID-19, and even then, those were listed as “COVID-19 pneumonia.”
The rest of the cases all had multiple comorbidities, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and dementia. One death listed as COVID was “a 94-year-old woman who suffered from Type 2 Diabetes, Atrial Fibrillation, and Congestive Heart Failure,” but who had the cause of death listed as Acute Respiratory Failure and COVID-19 pneumonia, CBS 12 reported.
Another case was a 72-year-old man with sepsis and a UTI, who had COVID listed as “contributory.” The average age of the county’s deaths is 77.3 years.
