After recovering from COVID-19, a Delhi-based mother of two in India was reluctant to take more medicines to aid her ongoing recovery and opted for a more natural ozone therapy, instead.
“A friend recommended I opt for ozone therapy since I was very weak. When I read up on it, I realized it is already being used in post-COVID treatment. Within five sessions, I started to feel better,” Pritha Tiwari said, adding that she supplemented the therapy with fresh fruit, vegetables and lots of water.
Tiwari may be on to something. Earlier in June 2020, a small trial for ozone therapy and its benefits for COVID-19 patients showed that 77% of those on ozone recovered by Day 5 and the rest had no symptoms, while only 53% of those on regular standard care recovered on the fifth day. By Day 10, all on the ozone treatment tested negative.
Ozone therapy is an alternative medical treatment that introduces ozone or ozonides to the body, increasing the production of cancer-fighting compounds. It has been shown to strengthen various parts of the immune system that are suppressed by chronic infection and cancer. Around 2,800 doctors currently practice it in India and awareness about the treatment has been steadily growing.
“Ozone also reduces the infection load in the body and it activates our inherent antioxidant defense mechanism within the cells which helps combat illness,” said Mili Shah, president, Ozone Forum of India. “Oxygen is detrimental for cancer cells. We’ve done studies which show that ozone therapy helps patients handle chemotherapy better.”
