Los Angeles is offering digital receipts for COVID vaccination that can be stored in the Apple iPhone wallet. While authorities say the purpose is to facilitate vaccine recipients’ coming in for their second dose, privacy advocates worry that it’s just one more step toward tracking everything you do.

If it gets to the point where you need proof of vaccination to travel, attend group events or even patronize a business, the receipts could also serve as a digital pass. But be forewarned: It could be just the beginning for data grabs of all kinds, not to mention that it would be unfair to those who haven’t gotten a vaccine for whatever reason.
