In a rush to get as many people vaccinated against COVID-19 as quickly as possible, Joe Biden has promised to release all vaccine stock as soon as he takes office as the next U.S. president.
The effort means getting “’at least 100 million Covid vaccine shots into the arms of the American people’” during his first 100 days in office, according to The New York Times. To accomplish this, he plans to set up vaccination sites in “high school gyms and sports stadiums, and mobile units to reach high-risk populations.”
This would mean having to change the dosing schedule to allow for more shots on the front end, with the second doses being administered as they become available. Federal health officials remain divided on the issue. Some, like the FDA, are against changing the dosing schedule; others support it, but only if Biden can ascertain that the second doses aren’t delayed.
